IGNITE Youth Leadership Program

We are a unique sports and leadership ministry that empowers teams of youth (middle and high school age) to coach, mentor, and walk alongside their younger peers (elementary school age) through sports activities and games.  Primarily, and due to popularity, that sport has been soccer.  However, we do weave into our curriculum other sports, interactive games, and activities (waste basket tennis, chair hockey, scooterball, etc.). Alongside this we build up that same youth leader team with weekly classes and workshops around prayer and faith, leadership, community engagement, and workforce development.

About this role

The IYLP Site Director will lead and direct all IYLP activities, programs, staff, volunteers, and student leaders.  This includes but is not limited to coordinating, scheduling, and managing character sports / soccer classes, site related partnerships, training, recruitment, selection of youth leaders, leadership development workshops, curriculum design and modification, and all data collection and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics

  • Coordinate, manage, and schedule all IYLP character sports / soccer classes, trainings, informational nights, youth leader recruitment and interviews, and field trips.
  • Work with designated partner site (The Avenue Church) on all appropriate field permit paperwork, fees, and or requirements.  Also, integration into current partner initiatives and programs in line with Fireside mission and vision, as well as on the ground support with student interactions and classes.
  • Provide direction and supervision for IYLP youth leadership team (10 – 15 students) on all character sport / soccer classes, including but not limited to youth leader speaking schedule, station assignments, dates, timeline for the classes, talking points, set-up and break down of all necessary equipment, and collaboration with any outside partner (if needed).
  • Cultivate partnerships with local organizations, schools, churches, and non-profits to enhance the workforce development piece of the program.  This includes but is not limited to guest speakers, mock interviews, collaboration with site career development initiatives, college visits, or field trips. 
  • Responsible for regular updates on program progress to Executive Director and Strategic Initiatives and Director of Fireside Ministry and Youth Leadership.  This includes but is not limited to updates on program numbers, workshops, trainings, field trips, successes, and challenges, etc.
  • Maintain consistent communication and relationship with Ignite Youth Leaders, Fireside Director, partner site administrators (The Avenue Church), and partners (10:10 Academy, The Annex, Homeschool Campus, and Classical Conversations). 
  • Responsible for all design, collaboration, and distribution of IYLP related flyers, marketing, and social media.
  • Lead and facilitate conversation around faith.  Specifically, a belief in God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  Also responsible for bringing in appropriate speakers to aid in the faith development of Ignite Youth Leaders.
  • Create and maintain Ignite YLP yearly calendar and distribute appropriately.
  • Assist in editing and creation of any new faith and leadership content to current Ignite YLP program manual.
  • Assist and participate in UHSM & Fireside Ministry staff retreats and trainings. 
  • Create and implement new ideas and initiatives in line with the Ignite mission and vision and in collaboration with the partner site.  This could include a possible Jr. Ignite program, weekend sports / soccer league, and or a parent and or community event. 

Administrative

  • Responsible for waiver (if necessary) and data collection, assessment, and summary for all activities and programs.
  • Maintain site specific budget including updates, requests, and end of quarter reporting. 
  • Responsible for all communication (email, phone) related to youth leaders, their parents, partner site staff, UHSM, Executive Director and Strategic Initiatives, and Fireside Director.
  • Responsible for all collection of contact information (parents and students), waivers, permission slips, IYLP expectation forms, and MOU’s.
  • Responsible for supervision of site college intern and coordinator and their duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for all social media content or delegation of social media content in line with UHSM requirements. 

Field Trips

  • Plan and coordinate all field trip detail and logistics.
  • Supervise all youth leaders and communicate clearly to parents and partner site on trip details and logistics.
  • Secure all transportation (if needed) services, contracts, and logistics. 

Required Qualifications

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of direct youth leadership development experience.
    • Currently enrolled and working towards a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of direct youth leadership development experience.
  • 1+ years of MS Excel and Word experience.
  • 1+ years of experience collecting and analyzing data.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and TB test.
  • Must be able to commit and adhere to the UHSM statement of faith.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Spanish Bilingual.
  • Self-starter and enjoy creating new programs and initiatives.
  • Personable and able to integrate into multiple educational and ministry environments.
  • Detailed, highly organized and possess the ability to time manage.  Schedule will fluctuate and change depending on the needs of the community / youth you are serving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with the experiential education, youth sports, and or non-profits.
